NBI / Zonta Area 5 Group Interaction

During the Partnership Call on NBI Director Virgilio L Mendez at their headquarters led by DG Lalivan, AD Bing Carrion and the Area 5 Presidents, the group held a forum / briefing on their respective roles on how to effectively carry out the No to Violence campaign nationwide in order to bring perpetrators of violence against women and girls to jail and assure survivors of support. This is in line with Zonta International 's call in line with the Treaty of Istanbul.
All in all both parties agreed to reinforce their united front to end the cycle of violence against women and girls.
Launching of the NBI Connection to i24/7 Interpol System

The Area 5 Presidents led by AD Bing Carrion joined the NBI Officials led by Director Virgilio L Mendez during the Interpol 24 / 7 Launch.
Everyone present were briefed on how to access the Interpol System to be able to search for criminals who perpetrate violence against women and girls.
The Zonta officials were happy to know that they could access this service to further Zonta's goal of bringing perpetrators to jail and assure the survivors of justice.



A Milestone Partnership was forged with the National Bureau of Investigation

A milestone partnership was forged with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) led by ZCMCBD together with the area 5 Presidents last 30 April 2015. Area 5 Director Bing Carrion together with District Governor Lalivan Karnchanachari, Advocacy Chair PDG Beng Puyat, Club Presidnets and Zontians Members met with NBI Director Atty. Virgilio L. Mendez who pledged the agency's full support, assistance and cooperation to Zonta's Say NO TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS Advocacy Campaign. NBI is the premier Investigative agency of the Philippine Government responsible for handling and resolving major cases in the interest of the nation's national security and safety of its citizens. A forum was held attended by NBI Chiefs of Gender and Development, Women's desk, Forensic and other related services who are mandated to prosecute perpetrators of VAWC.
The system was set up for Zonta Club Nationwide to partner with the NBI for training their members in the prevention of VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN (VAWC) and in other that Zonta Clubs Nationwide can access the services of the NBI for the resolution of these crimes.
This milestone partnership is timely because Zonta International's focus in consonance with the Istanbul Treaty criminalizing Acts of violence against women and children.

Celebrating The Birth of a New Club: The Zonta Club of Makati Central Business District, Charter No. 1937.

District 17 ' s latest member somed by Zonta Club of Fort Bonifacio led by President Patty Chiong and SOM Chair Sonia Tiong Aquino with the full support of Area 5 Director Bing Carrion was held last May 25, 2015 at the Mayuree Grand Ballroom of the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City, Philippines.
Inducted were 31 charter members led by Charter President, Angelita I.Lee. Keynote speaker was FBI Legal Attache Lamont Siller who emphasized their role in No to Violence Against Women Campaign and offered to be a partner of Zonta in this endeavor.
The new club was welcomed to the Makati Business Community by Evelyn R.Singson, chairman of the Dusit Thani Hotel Manila and the first woman president of The Management Association of the Philippines. The event was a joyous celebration. The Area 5 Presidents came in full force to welcome the officers and members to Zonta.

A Campaign to End VAWC

Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women is a Zonta International campaign to raise awareness of and increase actions to end violence against women and girls around the world.” Area 5’s 17 clubs came in full force to support thisinternational campaign, which began in November 2012, during the ‘orangeing’ of the Makati-Ayala -Glorietta Commercial Center on November 25, 2014. With about 2,500 participants led by District Governor Lalivan Karnchanachari, District Advocacy Chair Georgitta Puyat and Area 5 Director Maria Rosa “Bing” Carrion together with the 17 club presidents and their members, friends, supporters, Z and Golden Z Clubs officers and member students from Laguna, Makati and Las Pinas joined by visiting Zonta dignitaries Lt. Gov. Primitiva Perez Sison, District Secretary Kookai Karnchanachari and Area 6 Director Chavali Osathanugrah in attendance.
Leading the parade was the Drum, Lyre and Bugle Corps of the Benigno ‘Ninoy’ Aquino High School which attracted the attention of shoppers and bystanders. Those who joined the parade wore orange t-shirts which had the words: “Zonta Area 5 says NO to Violence Against Women and Girls”. The parade ended at the entrance of the Ayala Glorietta Activity Center when all the participants proceeded to the main hall where the ribbon cutting and the program was held.
This unforgettable milestone was captured in photos as seen in these pages. It was the first time in the history of Zonta International that this campaign achieved the following benchmarks:
1. The first time in the history of ZI that the “orangeing” of a community happened in the center of a central business district – the Makati Ayala Glorietta Commercial Center which created such a visibility and awareness about Zonta and our mission-vision.
2. The first time in the history of ZI that 17 clubs of one area held their advocacy and service projects inside the shopping area of the Ayala Glorietta Activity Center attracting over 1,000 people every day from November 25 to December 10, 2014 in the shopping mall.
3. The first time in the history of ZI that the visibility and awareness about Zonta rose to 400% because of the Facebook, Twitter, Instagram ‘Likes and Comments’, and emails that were generated by the activities of Zonta within the Ayala Glorietta Commercial Center during the 16 Days of Activism.
4. The first time in the history of ZI that a full page supplement appeared in The Manila Times (the oldest newspaper in the Philippines) on launch day, November 25, which was distributed around the Ayala Glorietta Activity Center further highlighting the awareness and importance of the “Say NO to Violence Campaign”.
5. The photo release that appeared in the Manila Bulletin which was read and seen nationwide further enhanced the awareness of the campaign.
6. The daily activities mounted by the 17 clubs for 16 days were anticipated by the shoppers at the Mall.
7. The huge tarps announcing the events as they unfolded within the Ayala Glorietta Shopping Mall also added to the visibility and awareness about Zonta.
This 16 Days of Activism in support of the Zonta campaign to say no to violence against women and girls was reinforced by the service and advocacy projects of the Zonta Clubs of Area 5 under District 17.
The overall working committee who mounted the 16 days of activism campaign of Area 5 were composed of AD Maria Rosa ‘Bing’ N. Carrion as Chairman with VAD5 Cora Tan, Mitzi Piad and Vicki Abraham as members. District Advocacy Chair Beng Puyat oversaw the implementation together with Area 5 Advocacy Vice Chairs PAD Carol Balotro and ZC Laguna IPP Merlene Alon.
The Zonta Says NO and the 16 Days of Activism visibility campaign mounted by Area 5 of District 17 composed of 17 clubs participating wholeheartedly, gave all Zonta members and officers a feeling of joy, euphoria, happiness, fulfillment, excitement, accomplishment and a sense of pride and belonging to an organization that empowers women and girls.
